magazine cover

Poster

This is our film poster for our production Smile, it is in black and white to bring tension to the setting of the film and also to bring fear and wonder to what is going to happen next in the film. Also the man in the background makes you think who is it and why is he on the poster.

Audience feed back

In the video that is shown above is our class mates commenting on what was good and what could of made it even better. This helped us as we are always open to improve our trailer and to know what the audience thought was good as they are around the age we aimed our trailer at. This was helpful due to us knowing weather they liked it or not and knowing weather it was suitable for them and maybe if we should higher or lower the age restriction. After we stopped filming we decided to ask them weather or not they thought that 15 was a suitable age restriction for our film and the majority of our class said that it was.

Directors cometary

This is our directors comontary this is where me, Kiera, Anna and Charlotte have watched our final production together and we picked it to pieces at parts and we explained what we done and why we done it. This was to help us understand more as the directors if it actually made sense to the audience on why we done specific things in the trailer. This is effective as it also gives us the audiences point of view as we are thinking like the audience would in the sense that we are think why we done that and what it would approve the scene through and why.

Digital Technology

The software that we used during our AS media was adobe premiere elements, by using this we was able to smoothly cut from one scene to another, we was able to add and cut music from other shots that we had taken. We used an IPhone 6 to film the opening, by using an IPhone 6 we had access to a camera with 8 megapixels, and a 1/3 inch sensor with a 1.5 pixel size.
pros and cons software:
We used adobe to create our production titles, we got the images off of google and put it onto adobe and added black backgrounds and names, we was also able to add fades in where neccisery. The only problem was it didn’t always allow us to upload the footage or images that we wanted.
It was hard to save the production due to it being such a big file as of the footage on it. But as it was such a big file it allowed us to upload many different clips so we was a Lebanese to pick and choose from many different scene and cut and stretch what was needed.

Camera shots list

In our trailer we have decided to use some of the most effective camera angles such as close ups mediajm shots and dolly shots.
The reason that we decided to use a close up was because it allows us to see all of the actual expressions and it makes the audience focuse on that one thing. This is effective because it makes the audience want to know why they are focusing on the person. We don’t tis at the end when we showed the antagonist and the victum this was effective because it was making the audience think why are they together and how do they link together.
We used medium shots to help with the surroundings this allows the audience to know the setting and the mood within the scene. This can show many different emotions within the character. It also allows the audience to see the body language that the characters are showing towards people and makes them wonder why.
We used a dolly shot in our trailer to show that the two girls are walking this is effective because it makes the audience feel like they are their with them and wxperiancing everything that they are. We use a dolly shot when the two girls are walking out of the shop this was to show where they was walking from and too.

Questionnaire results

These are the results to our questionnaire that we handed out after showing a handful of people our trailer.

For the first question the results were pretty good with 10 saying we confirmed and 5 saying we subverted. We asked the audience if the trailer was conventional to a horror film.

For the second question we asked the audience what part of the trailer they preferred beginning, middle or end. The majority of the audience said that they preferred ghetto end due to it ending on a cliff hanger.

When we asked the audience if they thought that the music that we had playing the back helped add tension to the setting most of them said that it did due to the different sounds and pitches building up at the right place of the trailer.

The last question that we asked the audeince was that did the trailer make you want to watch the film and the answer was yes they was intreeged to find out what was going to happen in the film and wanted to know what happened to the two girls that saw Emily and the killer.

Certificate Research

As a group we have decided give our film a age certificate of 15 this is because there isn't any violent language in the trailer/film so it is appropriate for 15 to view but there are some gory parts in the trailer that isn't quite appropriate for anyone under the ae of 15.

question air for audience

This questionnaire asks the audience if they think that our trailer conforms or subverts to the stereotype of a horror film.

1. do you think that our trailer feels like a conventional horror trailer?

2. what part of the trailer do you think is most effective?

3. do you think that the music in the trailer helped add trailer? if not why?

4. what do you think we could do to improve our trailer for next time?

5. does our trailer make you want to watch the whole production of Smile?

Props being used

IN our trailer we aren’t actually going to be using a lot of props, it’s more of what’s going to take to make the prop for example the special effects make-up; for this we needed PVA glue, tissue, make-up and fake blood as once we had made the special effects make-up it was just a matter of placing it back into the same paction on the face. Another prop that we used for our production was a police badge and a pair of handcuffs to make the character of the undercover police officer look more realistic, as the character is actually the one that killed the girl that went missing so wanted to make him blend in as much as possible to the everyday people, and who do people trust most?, police officers.

Mood Board

This mood board represents all of the ways that we came up with the ideas of the production Smile. The mood board helped us figure out all of the major and all of the minor details that was put into place for our production of Smile. The mood board shows some of the props that we willing be using in the production.

Storyline

Anna and Kiera are shopping in Epsom, they leave the shop and start making their way back home. They come across Charlotte, she is complaining and shouting down the phone about a missing poster. Anna and Kiera walk over to Charlotte and ask what the problem was. Charlotte says that it's about a missing poster that's been put up about a girl that has been missing for over a year. Kiera ask's what the problem is as she knows the person that went missing. A police officer walk's over to break up the argument that has started over a poster. Anna and Kiera walk of as requested by the officer and as they walk of Kiera thinks that she sees Ellie (the girl that's been missing). As the screen fades to black we are shown a picture of the officer and Ellie. which make's the girls think who can they trust?

Mind map for trailer

This is our trailer mind map, this is what we used to come up with our final plan for our trailer. In this mind map we have come up with many different ideas for each section. On the mind map we have come up plans for the location, props, makeup, shots, sounds, the text on screen, and the date of filming. This helped us come up with the idea of the final trailer Smile.

Soundtrack research

For our soundtrack we knew that we wanted a edgy, spooky and unique sound. We discussed recording the sound our self but we came to an agreement that it would just be easier to get the music off of YouTube. The non-copyright music that we decided to use had a range of pitches and a load of different sounds overlapping to create a strange, spooky and unique sound.

Story Board

Our story bored didn't have much detail the pictures but it was clear enough to give us a outline on what it was that we was doing. Our story bored we had more description within the writing than in the actual pictures. In the writing we had details like what was said, if the sound was diagetic or non-diagetic and what the camera angles was that we was going to be using.

evaluation 1

Both of our films productions conform to the stereotype of the of a horror film. The reason that we choose horror to be the genre of our productions is because the conventions of a horror film is clear to the audience.
In our production Smile we used a year later. This is effective because its giving the audience a idea on what has happened in the last year.

In our trailer we use a close up of the antagonist to bring fear to the audience on wondering what they are going to do next. We got the idea of a close up of the antagonist from the film Split, as a view I found this effective due to wonder and wanting to know what is going to happen next.

In our production of Smile we decided to add some special effects makeup to make it look more realistic. the special effects makeup that we used was a gun shot in the head and a calving of a smiley face on the check. We got the idea of the gun shot in the head from the film Legend and the calving in the face from the film The Pumpkin Kalver.

In our G324 production we used a non-copyright music, the music that we used was a load of different pitches and sounds overlapping one another to create tension and it also helps set the scene. We discussed recording it our selves and as a group they came to a decision not to record it and to use non-copyright music off of YouTube.

For the actual speaking in our production it wasn't that clear so as  we got all of the actors together that spoke in the production and we rerecorded the script and we used adobe to cut and crop parts of the voice over out and fit into the parts of the trailer that it was appropriate.

In our production we decided that we was going to use around the same size fount through out to make it more effective and make it look more professional as you wouldn't see a range of fount in a Hollywood movie. The font that we used was a steady but edgy font, the reason we used this one is because the font can help the audience know what genre the film is.

Our film poster for our production doesn't reveal much about the film which is good as it draws in the audience, as they want to find out more about the trailer. We have made our trailer black and white to create a setting of mystery and wonder.

One of the ways that we used to promote our production was we created a magazine cover. we used other magazine covers for movies to help us in the guidance on what ours should look like. The reason that we ended up doing it like this is because it is simple but it is eye catching and effective towards the reader. We have used a name that we have created for our magazine called Movie Mayhem. it has loads of details on the front cove like the title of the production.

We made our trailer seem like a trailer by fading in and out from one scene to another, we also made the trailer seem like a trailer through the use of titles that we used. We also used the music to make it seem more like a trailer, by putting the music over the top of some scenes is effective because its allowing the audience to connect to the trailer and make them want to watch more.

Character's Costume

this is Annie's (played by Anna Phillips) clothing the reason that this outfit was chosen is because it is baggy clothing and that is what teenagers are wearing.

This is Emily McPayne's (played by Ellie Payne) clothing this outfit was chosen due to the fact that its dark clothing brining the devil or evil out in her.

this is Kaites (played by Kiera McLean) this outfit was chosen because its whats popular with teens.

this is Lotties (played by Charlotte) clothing this outfit was chosen because it is what is popular within the fashion with young kids.

this is undercover officer/killers (played by Josh) clothing this was chosen because it is a casual look that you would see anyone on the streets wearing and he wanted to do his best with blending in with the crowed.

script

vedio storybored

this is the videoed storyboard. this gives us as the producers a better idea on what it is we had to do for the trailer as we had a moving version of the 2D thing.

Character's Profile

Emily McPayne
she is one of the main characters as she is the one that gets killed and has a smiley face carved into her face (marked by her killer). she had been missing for about 1 year and there had been police investigations and everything on where she had gone.
Kaite
she is Emily's best friend and hasn't given up on finding her. Kaite is the one that spots Emily lying up against the tree.
Annie
she is Kaite and Emily's other friend that hasn't lost hope completely that Emily will return home but is slowly starting to believe that she is gone forever.
Lottie
she is the mean girl. she puts Kaite and Annie down by saying that Emily will never return. Lottie also kicks up a stink about there still being a missing poster up of Emily as she no longer thinks that Emily will return home.
Police Officer/Killer
he pretends to be a police officer to get the trust of people so they come to him before he kills them to then calve a smiley face on their check. the smiley face represents him being unhappy as a child and wanting to permanently engrave happiness on their faces but it all goes wrong when he kills Emily McPayne and know as to take out anyone that try's to get in his way.

Bullet makeup tutorial

this is one of the make-up tutorials that i watched whilst i was practicing doing the bullet shot for the make-up. although i done it free hand and off the top of my head it was nice to be able to see how other people do it and have the other options on how to do it.

makeup trials

make-up trials

this is the main make-up piece that we used in the trailer due to the fact that this is how the killer shows his mark to who hes killed. the calving is of a smiley face on the face representing the name smile and it also gives clues on why the killer kills and who he kills.

the pencil through the hand was just something that we tried thinking that maybe we might be able to make it look like a stick through the hand but we thought that it might be a little over the top so we thought that it might be best if we just left it.

Final Film title

this is our final film title. the reason that we have decided to go with one is simply because its an original to us and represents the edginess of the trailer. through this title it shows that we there is a seance of mystery within due to the lack of color.

trailer

this is our official trailer for our production of smile. in this trailer we are shown mostly all of the main charterers that are going to be in the film. for example we are shown the victim, antagonist and some of the mates.
in the trailer we are shown the killers mark on when he kills.
we aren't shown too much in the trailer for example we aren't shown why the killer kills but we are given hints for example the mark on the face of a smiley face and the fact that he shows up for no reason pretending to be someone that's meant to be helpful towards the world.
